On 23 October 1932, thirteen winegrowers joined forces to establish Cantina di Calasetta, making it one of the oldest wineries in Sardinia. Their goal was to promote the native Carignano and Vermentino grape varieties, a commitment they have fiercely upheld ever since, earning them the title of ‘custodians of Carignano’.
A portion of the vineyards is planted on the sandy soils characteristic of the island of Sant’Antioco. Here, the vines are grown ungrafted on their own rootstocks – making it one of the rare places in the world where vines successfully resisted the phylloxera epidemic.
In the adjacent lower Sulcis area, the vineyards thrive on limestone-clay soils, situated right by the sea and constantly swept by maritime winds.
The masterful blending of these two distinct terroirs guarantees unique, characterful wines that serve as true ambassadors for the region.
