The story of UnMareDivino begins with Gioacchino Sini, born in 1881, and his profound love for the land of Berchidda in the Sardinian province of Olbia-Tempio. This is where the patriarch of the Sini family was born and lived his life. In 1949, it was Gioacchino who, alongside his sons Pietrino and Pasqualino, planted the family’s very first vineyard. For the locals, owning a family vineyard was entirely natural – a fundamental aspect of everyday life. In Berchidda, no self-respecting farmer would fail to ‘ennoble’ their agricultural work by cultivating vines. Furthermore, few areas in Sardinia possessed – or indeed still possess – the same powerful vocation for producing high-quality wines as this small town, nestled between Monte Acuto and the Gallura coast. Vermentino takes pride of place, though the terroir also yields exceptionally fine red wines.
In those days, wine was crafted for family consumption rather than commercial gain, and the greatest satisfaction for any producer was to compare the aromas and flavours of their own vintage with those of their neighbour. This friendly, good-natured rivalry continues to inspire each winegrower to strive for ever greater excellence today.
